According to CNN the tech elite are struggling to define Google+. This seems very odd to me, as the premise of Google+ is very straightforward: it is a social media platform that allows you to control where your message goes.

Blogs are one of the few online properties where you have full control over the message while still inviting reader participation. However, the blogosphere is a cacophonous place. Last month ICANN, the organization that sets internet protocols and website naming conventions, announced that any “established public or private organization” can now register a top level domain (TLD).
Soon .ibm and .union may be join the ranks of .com, .org, and .net. The price tag to set up one of these vanity domains is $185,000, and ICANN is still working on the renewal fees.

Ah, the good old days! When we could say “the 40s” or “the 90s” and the words flowed easily and everyone understood each other.
But now… what? This century is not only uncomfortable to live in, it isn’t easy to refer to.
How to Write It
If you want to abbreviate a year, let’s use 2006, you can write ‘06. Yes, there is only one apostrophe.
