How often should you re-do your website?
Apr 2, 2009 by Marissa Berger
You invested on your website and are happy with the results. How long are you “done” for? The real answer is that a website is never done. You need to keep its content fresh on an on-going basis. But what about the larger overhauls? Assuming there have been no significant changes in your business or industry… how often should you re-design or re-build your website?
The answer will vary depending on what type of site you have. On average, though, we would recommend taking a serious look at your website every 18 - 24 months. Why?
Design trends change. As new technology arises, the look and feel of websites adapts and changes. Even the increases in monitor resolutions affect web design. Web users are savvy and know what’s a dated design and what’s not and they will make buying decisions based on that.
Technology updates. Technology on the web seems to change every day… anyway, it changes at a very fast pace. New and improved ways to do what your site already does will come up. You need to keep up with the competition and offer visitors a good online experience.
New browsers. New browser versions and even new browsers show up and your code may not be compatible. The better written your code is, the more it will stand the test of time. But even well-written sites can fall apart in new browsers.
New purpose and uses. The web is still relatively new and brand new ways of using websites come up all of the time. You need to keep up with why and how people use websites and respond appropriately.
Review your site seriously every 18 - 24 months on top of the on-going maintenance and marketing that you already do to make sure you never lose track of your audience.

Fantastic, I didn’t know about that till now. Thx!
